On Wednesday evening, June 14, 1893, at the residence of the officiating Minister, Rev. Edward Hickey, joined in the bonds of holy wedlock, Mr. James A. Marshall and Miss Mary Hubbard, both of this city.  The company was very select including none but the families of the contracting parties and a few intimate friends, the supper was elegant and the presents useful and choice.  At a reasonable hour the pleasant company separated, the married couple going to their own newly fitted and cosy home at 309 Broadway.  Congratulations are in order.

Heart Ailment is Fatal to James A. Marshall Friday

Atlas Company Engineer Dies 10-Days After Sudden Attack

The death of James A. Marshall, 76, engineer at the Atlas Underwear company, which occurred at 3:15 o’clock this morning at his home, 219 Gordon street is the occasion for deep sorrow among a wide circle of friends as well as members of a large and devoted family.  Mr. Marshall never recovered from a heart attack with which he was stricken Wednesday morning, March 19, on his way to work, and since then death has been expected almost momentarily.  Born May 24, 1864, at Hardin, Shelby county, he was the son of William and Sarah Davis Marshall.  He had resided in Piqua for 60 years and was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic church and of the Independent Order of Foresters.  He was also active in the Democratic party and at the time of his death was Central Committeeman for the 2nd Ward.  On June 14, 1893 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Hubbard, who survives him.  Besides his widow he leaves a daughter, Miss Helen Marshall, bookkeeper for the Piqua Daily Call; three sons, William H., James E., and Robert M. Marshall, all of Mansfield; a sister, Mrs. C. F. Goodrich (Margaret Marshall) of City Point, Fla., and 10 grandchildren, all residing in Mansfield.  A brother Charles A. Marshall, died a few years ago, a brother and sister dying in infancy.  The Rev. James Falls will officiate at services Monday morning at nine o’clock at St. Mary’s church with burial in Forest Hill cemetery.  The body was taken to the Wagner Funeral Home and will be returned to the residence Saturday afternoon when friends may call from two o’clock until the hour of the funeral, Monday.

Mrs. Mary Hubbard Marshall, 81, widow of James A. Marshall, died at 4:30 a.m. today at her residence, 219 Gordon street, where she had been ill for a year with coronary ailment and in a critical condition since she suffered a cerebral hemorrhage Monday.  Born in Troy March 18 1871, she was the daughter of William and Bridgett Doolin Hubbard.  She had lived in Piqua since she was eight years old and attended St. Mary’s school.  Her husband, whom she married June 14, 1893, died April 4, 1941.  Mrs. Marshall was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic church, Daughters of Isabella and St. Mary’s Altar society.  She was a woman beloved by both old and young, a devoted mother and grandmother, with a wide circle of friends who enjoyed her cordial hospitality and her willingness to participate in church and social activities.  She is survived by a devoted daughter, Miss Helen Marshall, bookkeeper at the Piqua Daily Call office; three sons, William H., James E. and Robert M. all of Mansfield; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild, and a sister, Mrs. G. W. Henne (Anna) of Mansfield.  A brother, M. E. Hubbard, preceded her in death.  The Rev. Robert Von Kachel will read the requiem mass Saturday at 9 a.m. at St. Mary’s church with burial in Forest Hill cemetery.  Friends may call at the Jamieson funeral home after 2:30 p.m. Friday.

Miss Helen Marshall, Retired Daily Call Bookkeeper, Dies

Miss Helen M. Marshall, 70, of 219 Gordon, bookkeeper at the Piqua Daily Call for 43 years, died unexpectedly of a cerebral hemorrhage at 1:50 a.m. today at Piqua Memorial Hospital.  She was admitted to the hospital Sunday, April 12, when she fell at her home and suffered an ankle fracture.  Born in Piqua, April 11, 1894, she was the daughter of James A. and Mary Hubbard Marshall.  She had lived here all her life, attended St. Mary Elementary School and graduated from St. Mary High School.  Miss Marshall came to work at the Call office in 1916 and retired in 1959.  She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Daughters of Isabella, LCBA and St. Mary Ladies Society.  She is survived by two brothers, James Edward Marshall and Robert Morris Marshall both of Mansfield, and nine nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, William H. Marshall, who died in 1958.  The Rev. Fr. Francis Fritz will intone the Requiem High Mass at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary Church.  Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.  Friends may call at the Melcher Funeral Home Sunday from 7 to 9 and after 2 p.m. Monday.  Members of Daughters of Isabella and St. Marys Ladies Society will meet at the funeral home for Rosary at 7 p.m. Monday.
