Anton Rebel Obituary

The Mansfield Journal, September 4, 1931

Anton Rabel died at his home, 189 Orange street, Thursday noon following a stroke of apoplexy.  He had been ill for the last two weeks.  He was born in Austria-Hungary, June 28, 1869, and came to the United States 28 years ago.  He lived in Ottowa, Ill. for six years and then went to North Dakota.  Eight years ago Mr. Rabel came to Mansfield.  He was employed at the Westinghouse and later worked for the city.  Besides his wife he is survived by seven sons and three daughters.  Max, Peter, Joseph and Phillip, live here, and the other two sons, Anton jr. and Valentine reside in North Dakota.  His daughters are Mrs. John Teorksie, Gertrude and Marcella Rabel, all of this city.  Funeral services, in charge of the J. A. Geiger funeral home, will be held at St. Peter’s Catholic church Saturday Morning at 9 o’clock.  Rev. Father R. C. Goebel will be in charge and burial will be in the Mansfield Catholic cemetery.

Mrs. Barbara Rebel Shaffer, 73, of 301 Orange street died early yesterday morning at her home after a lingering illness.  She was born in Austria-Hungary on May 13, 1875, came to this country 44 years ago, and had resided in Mansfield for the past 25 years.  She was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic church, the Greater Beneficial union, and the Daughters of Herman.  Surviving are her husband, Joseph Schaffer, eight sons, Anton Rebel of Richardton, N.D., Max Rebel of Mansfield, Valentine Rebel of Richardton, N.D., Phillip Rebel of Galion, and Peter Rebel, Joseph Rebel, Frank Rebel and John Schaffer all of Mansfield; three daughters, Mrs. John Torski, Mrs. John Lemley and Mrs. John Bowden all of Mansfield; one sister Mrs. Phillip Kampf of Cleveland; 29 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.  Friends may call at the Geiger funeral home until time of services.  Msgr. R. C. Goebel will conduct high mass funeral services at St. Peter’s Catholic church Tuesday morning at 9:30 a.m.  Burial will be in the Mansfield Catholic cemetery.
