Tanas Treneff Obituary

Mansfield News Journal, Saturday, October 15, 1966

Tanas Treneff, 71, a former Mansfielder, died last night in Mt. Carmel Hospital, Columbus.  He was owner of Tony’s Grill in the capitol city.  Surviving are his widow, two daughters, two sons, three stepdaughters, 24 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, most of them in Columbus.  Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Evans Funeral Home, 4171 East Livingston St., Columbus.  Friends may call there after 2 p.m. today.

Former Mansfield resident Alex T. Treneff, 74, of Newark, died Monday evening, Oct. 26, 1998, at Licking Memorial Hospital.  Born July 23, 1924 in Mansfield, he was the son of the late Tanas and Spacia Treneff.  He was a graduate of Mansfield High School and served in the U.S. Army Yankee Division as an MP during WWII in the European Theatre.  From 1956-1958 he operated Newark Employment Services.  From 1958 until their retirement in 1994, he and his wife were the owners and operators of Kelley Services in Newark.  He was a member of the Newark Maennerchor, the Newark High School Athletic Booster Club and was the past President of the Ohio Private Employment Services, Moundbuilders Country Club, Newark Jaycees, Newark Toastmasters Club, the Newark Rotary Club where he was a Paul Harris Fellow, the Licking County Foundation, a 15-year winter resident of Naples, FL, and a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.  He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Gretchen (Torski) Treneff; Sons & daughters-in-law, Terry & Trinka Treneff, Newark and Tim & Christina Treneff, Jackson, TN; Daughter & son-in-law, Trudy & David Neel, Dublin, OH; Grandchildren, Jonathan, David, Alex and Katie; Sisters & brothers-in-law, Daisy & Richard Traphagen, Grove City, OH, Helen & Mirche Traikoff, Columbus, OH; Brothers & sisters-in-law, Lewis & Helen Treneff, Grove City, OH, Chris & Marlene Treneff, Groveport, OH, George & Ellie Treneff, Columbus, OH; Sisters-in-law, Marjorie Pringle, Mansfield, and Mary Ann Torski, Mansfield; and many nieces and nephews.  Friends may call from 2-4 & 7-9 pm Thursday at the Newark Chapel of Henderson, Van Atta & Johnston Funeral Service where funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:30 am with the Rev. William Rauch officiating.  Entombment will follow at Newark Memorial Gardens.  The family suggests contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 843 N. 21st Street, Suite 111, Newark, OH or the American Heart Association, 5455 N. High St., Columbus, OH 43214.  Following committal services at the cemetery, friends are invited to attend a “Remembrance Celebration” which will be held at Moundbuilders Country Club.
