Torski — Marshall Wedding

Mansfield News Journal, Wednesday, July 4, 1951

SUMMER WEDDING UNITES LOCAL COUPLE TUESDAY

Miss Mary Ann Marshall Speaks Vows With First Lt. John P. Torski in St. Peter’s.

During a pretty summer wedding yesterday Miss Mary Ann Marshall became the bride of First Lt. John P. Torski.  The couple exchanged vows at St. Peter’s Catholic church.  Msgr. R. C. Goebel officiated for the nuptial high mass at 9:30 a.m.  Palms, intermingled with briarcliff roses, bella donna delphiniums and gypsohila, banked the altar.  Beauty baskets of briarcliff roses and blue delphiniums and bouquets of similar flowers decorated the communion rail.  The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert M. Marshall, 138 Helen Ave., and Mr. Torski is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John G. Torski, 955 McPherson St.  Raymound E. Baum presided at the organ, and a quartet sang the mass.  Mr. Marshall escorted his daughter to the altar and gave her in marriage.  She chose imported Swiss eyelet for her informal wedding gown.  It was made with a low V neckline both back and front.  The neckline which was edged with a wide ruffle of eyelet extened out over the shoulders.  The unpressed pleated skirt, which was attached to a bodice pointed in front and back, was fashioned slightly off the floor in front with a sweep in the back.

ILLUSION VEIL

The bride wore an imported French silk illusion veil of fingertip length.  It was attached to a tiny bonnet made of Swiss eyelet which matched the gown.  The only jewelry worn by the bride was a single strand of pearls, a gift of the bridegroom.  She carried a cascade arrangement of white stephanotis with a detachable corsage of pink sweetheart roses.  Miss Susan Mangan served as maid of honor at the ceremony.  She was attired in a white frosted organza ballerina length gown over French blue taffeta.  The gown was made with cap sleeves and a crushed girdle of blue taffeta.  She wore a little bonnet of blue taffeta and frosted organza trimmed in the back with briarcliff roses.  The maid of honor carried a colonial bouquet of briarcliff roses during the ceremony.  Mrs. Marshall received the wedding guests attired in a navy linen dress with lace trim.  Her accessories were in chamois.  Mrs. Marshall had a corsage of yellow shattered carnations.  Mrs. Torski appeared in a light blue lace frock with white accessories.  Her shoulder corsage was of pink shattered cartnations.  Richard E. Marshall, brother of the bride, served as best man.  Ushering the guests to their pews were James Marshal, a cousin of the bride, and John Lemley, uncle of the groom. Following the wedding a garden party for 200 guests was held at the home of the bride’s parents.  Arrangements of briarcliff roses and blue delphiniums decorated the serving tables.

HONEYMOON IN EAST

For motoring through the eastern states, the new Mrs. Torski wore a brown sharkskin suit with Panama accessories.  The bride graduated from St. Peter’s high school and the Good Samaritan hospital School of Nursing, Dayton.  Lt. Torski graduated from Mansfield Senior high school.  He is with the 83rd Field Artillery and following their honeymoon, he will be stationed in Germany.  The out-of-town guest list included friends and relatives from Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton, Lima, Springfield, Tipp City, Wapakoneta, Piqua, Galion, Bucyrus and Marion.  Among the guests present were 22 graduate nurses from Dayton, classmates of the bride.
